"The primary, if not he only be measured by which we will be judged by those who come after us is going to be the health of the land base.
They’re not gonna give a shit as to whether we voted democrat, republican, green, anarchist, didn't vote at all. They’re not gonna give a shit whether we recycled. They’re not going to give a shit whether we were violent or not violent. They’re not gonna give a shit as to whether we were nice people or not nice people. They’re not gonna give a shit as to whether we wrote great books or made great films or did great talks or anything else. They’re gonna care about whether they can breathe the air and drink the water.
We can all fantasize whatever we want about some groovy eco socialist utopia with free love everywhere, it doesn’t matter if you can’t breathe the air and you can’t drink the water. The only measure by which any generation will be judged is the health of the land base that they pass on." Endgame – Derrick Jensen
I could go off on how easy I get pulled into my gagets (cell phones, computer, juicer, etc) or the clothes I wear, the pretty linens I want on my bed, the color of paint on the wall creating just the perfect ambiance but when it gets down to it can I look around and see how simplicity, and growing my own foods, and spending less, driving less, and so and so on will only help those who come after us? Our children, their children’s children and not let it be a cliché but truly feel it down in my bones? I can only try. And keep trying. Will you?
